Washington State

Washington State is currently the third largest wine producing state, but is quickly gaining on New York (#2). Though originally thought too cold for wine-growing, the states wine industry is thriving in the very sunny, yet cool climate. The sun in Washington State is similar to that found in northern european vineyards, this with the cool nights in the Columbia Valley provide a perfect situation for Cabernet and Merlot based wines. Also look for very fine Sauvignon Blanc, Sèmillon, and Syrah.

Washington State wine regions are growing at a very fast rate, today the regions are: Puget Sound, Columbia Valley, Yakima Valley, Wahulke Slope, Rattlesnake Hills, Red Mountain, Horse Heaven Hills, Walla Walla and Columbia Gorge
