Sardinia
The Island of Sardinia has a long history with growing grapes for wine and might be the original home to Grenache, which is known locally as Cannonau, there is also some Monica grown and produced into red wines. The white wines are produced from Sardinia's version of Vermintino thoughout the Island and the best area is the DOCG of Vermentino di Gallura on the northern tip of Sardinia.
