Puglia or Apulia in Latin, is a long penisula that is heavily planted to vines. Much of these vineyards provided bulk wines for consumption and even grapes for northern wine regions (illegal today, hopefully not practiced too much anymore). Today the vineyards are being increasingly used to produce higher quality wines that often represent good value.

The grapes found vary from the north to the southern tip. Primitivo, Negroamaro and Malvasia Nera are all found in the southern portion, Montepulciano and Uva di Troia are found in the north of Puglia.
